Welcome to the Fifth Grade webpage.

Language Arts:
We complete six reading themes throughout the year from the Houghton Mifflin Series. These themes incorporate a variety of literature that is both fiction and nonfiction and reviews reading skills and strategies that students have learned since kindergarten. These skills and strategies are state standards based and will be applied and integrated throughout other content area subjects. Spelling and grammar skills are integrated into our reading themes.

Math:
Our school district also uses the Houghton Mifflin Series for our math instruction. We focus on various math concepts such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, problem solving, fractions, not to mention basic computation. It is vital that your child know their multiplication facts. We will also prepare for the PSSA throughout the school year so our students will be ready for this assessment. Any help you could give at home would be greatly appreciated as we strive to reach our goals and have a great year!
