Kid Writing
Our classes explore journal writing every day through the Kid Writing program. Students are given the opportunity to learn letters, sounds and the conventions of writing through daily journaling activities. Students get the opportunity to develop their skills and creativity while developing vocabulary.

Math
Our district uses the Harcourt Math Series. Our curriculum includes:

-sorting and patterns
-counting
-numbers 1 to 30
-shapes
-time
-money
-measurement
-basic addition and subtraction

All of the above topics include problem solving and hands-on exploration. Math skills are reviewed and reinforced with daily calendar activities.

Dibels/Interventions
Kindergarten students have their language skills monitored through the Dibels assessment. All students then participate in daily intervention activities in small groups to improve their skills. These groups allow students to progress at their level.

A description of the skills assessed can be found at https://dibels.uoregon.edu/

Technology
Baker Elementary has a computer lab where students work on skills in Reading and Math through Compass Learning. The Compass Learning Odyssey program allows students to progress through practice of skills in Reading and Math at their own pace.

An explanation of the program can be found at http://www.compasslearning.com/

All classrooms are equipped with Promethean boards that enrich the daily curriculum with interactive activities.
